De-Art Thou?

Do you feel this way?

I do.
Quite often in fact.

Especially when I really in love with the eyeshadow colors I wear that day, I would be so reluctant to take it off! I would wanna meet you, meet her, meet him and meet everyone before I come home... and when I reach home, I would stare in the mirror for a long time before i FINALLY remove it.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!!

I heard you.

Heh I was just kidding. About the last part.

But the rest is true. I feel kinda "upset" when I had to wipe the beautiful blended colors off at the end of the day. Be it on myself or on my models...
I feel that sometimes makeup is so short term art.
The beauty makeup has is that you wont have to regret once you tried it, cos you can easily remove it if you dont like it.
The advantage is also the disadvantage.
Because it is not permanent.
That is also why I feel the urge to take pictures for keepsake & journaling.

I really love painting. Waving the brushes around weaving magic has got to be heaven's gift to me. Thanks.

NARS & Makeup tricks

Renowned make-up artist and François Nars’ sidekick, Uzo talks make-up tricks and private islands.

Francois Nars' accomplice Uzo

Where it all started
I’ve been working for Nars for more than 13 years. I was with Nars when the blush Orgasm didn’t exist. It’s been so interesting to watch the evolution of the brand. Who knew when they launched Orgasm in 1999 that it would be this cult classic? I remember when it sold out. Francois did not expect what it has become today.

Book deal
It took four weeks to produce the book, Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself. Can you believe it? Francois had instructed a casting agency to scour the streets of New York City for 60 globally diverse women and men. He wanted different face shapes, skin-tones and professions. When it came to creating the looks, he didn’t want to know their background, he just wanted a blank canvas and to be inspired by the shape of their face or the colour of their eyes.

Working with a team of artists, François supervised everything and took the photographs. The man is a genius, he is amazing with colour. It’s a beauty manual that demystifies make-up application and techniques. Divided into three sections (play, perfect and polish), the book features real people and there’s an acetate overlay on the before and after images with Francois’s handwriting and the name of the products, colours and actual placement.

Reality check
This book is real. Looking at celebrities is not a good barometer of whether a look will work for you. Celebrities constantly tweak their faces and get treatments on a regular basis, in the real world most of us don’t have time for that and aren’t getting our nose tweaked or our brows lifted. François celebrates us – that’s what I love.

Life between cities
I’m based in LA but I fly a lot between LA and New York. It sounds like the perfect life but I spend half my time in an airplane and I visit every other city in between - Miami, Chicago, Dallas... François lives in New York but he also has a home in Motu Tane in the South Pacific. He bought the island - yes, the island - in 2000 when Shiseido bought the brand. Of course he also has a home in Paris but he really loves New York City.

Everything is illuminated
The years I’ve been at Nars I’ve become a much better make-up artist in terms of complexion. I love putting The Multiple [a three-in-one product] under foundation, it’s my signature. You can use any of the colours to highlight and warm the complexion before foundation. Just apply it to the cheeks and blend it into an upside-down triangle. My skin is oily and it works so well as it’s a cream-to-powder formula and is oil-free. I have to say, whether it’s a celebrity, model or soccer mum, everybody loves the look of illumination within the skin.

The essentials
As I’ve gotten older I try to carry less. I always have Exhibit A blush, which I love to use by itself or with other blushes. I love it on women with very dark or very pale skin. I use the cream shadows and apply it with my fingers. I always carry Triple X lip gloss, powder foundation because I always need to touch up, and a black pencil.

Try it all
I guess my make-up mantra is that make-up is there for people to experiment with. There’s so much good make-up out there, and technology has allowed products to be more sheer and lightweight that it’s almost criminal if you don’t try new colours. Go out there, step outside the box and don’t be afraid to experiment with colour. Sometimes when we limit ourselves we rob ourselves from discovering something that would be a wow factor for your lips or for your eyes.

Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself by François Nars will be available in July 2011 exclusive to Mecca Cosmetica.

Beauty university

Hihi babes!
It's a drizzy day with the sprinkle down since 6pm. If u noe me, u noe Nice chilly weather is to my liking!!!

And I like to say this to everybody i meet...
...if I have the power to control the education system, I will delete "Literature" AND put in "Beauty School" as a COMPULSORY module in high school/college/ polytechnics & universities!
Or perhaps added into our ART classes!!! ;) good idea eh?
I wld Luve to be a school teacher then.
Draw on paper
Draw on faces
Draw on wood
Draw on canvas
FUN FUN FUN!!!

Geography/ literature has given me no direction/meaning in my career or life...srsly.

In the module, I will teach you all the makeup fantasies you ever have secretly or openly!
Makeup has no boundaries. Leave it to the widest imagination & possibilities and let them unravel its beauty before you. Sooner or later, you will be hooked to the feelings of being prettier and people want to talk to you more than before!

As Nathan Johnson (ANTM) famously said,
"I think makeup should be taught to women in high school. So many ladies have no idea what to do with color. They apply it wrong, or stick to the same 3 colors or worst 1 color for their entire life!! "

I totally agree hands & feet!!!

Unsettling for me to look into a weirdly made up face or a blank unmade face. I cant help but stare.

Yesterday I was at Watsons to get mosquito patch and I asked a girl for help in the crowded shopat far east. She looked up & scared the whole wits out of me! She has 2 wiry thin as cockroach legs, black brows almost going to meet in the centre!
I wish I could tell her & help her.

Girls, what u prefer?
Q: Would u like ppl to tell u nicely when ur brows (or anywhere) looook like cockroach legs OR not at all cos u'll be hurt?

I would luve an answer.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is present in every tissue of the body and performs many important functions including fight free, radicals, tissue repair & cell renewal. It locks moisture in extracellular matrix (ECM), which is the fluid-filled space between cells, keeping collagen and elastin moist and promoting a youthful supple appearance. Skin appears smoother and more radiant. HA is able to hold up to 1000times its weight, but gets degraded (sunburn & aging >35yrs old) and stops producing as much ha.
Injectible hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, are being to lessen the appearance of lines, sagging and depressions in the skin caused by acne scars or injury.

Injectible hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, are being to lessen the appearance of lines, sagging and depressions in the skin caused by acne scars or injury. HA eventually breaks down and is absorbed in the body hence effects only last 4-6months.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba (Simmodsia chinensis [Latin]) is a perennial woody shrub grown primarily in the desert regions of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Native Americans have long used jojoba oil to help heal sores and wounds. Today, jojoba oil is still most commonly used for cosmetic purposes, particularly for the maintenance of healthy skin.

Jojoba oil is composed of liquid wax esters rather than oil. The body’s natural sebum also contains wax esters, which act as a sort of natural moisturizer and environmental barrier for the skin. However, wax ester production steadily decreases with age, causing the skin to appear dull and emphasizing wrinkles; a reduced ester content in the skin can also lead to the development of conditions such as psoriasis, dandruff, and rosacea.

The chemical composition of jojoba closely resembles that of the skin’s natural sebum, so it is easily absorbed and trick the skin into producing less natural sebum which may clog pores. It rarely causes allergic reactions, even in the most sensitive individuals, hence can prevent the skin from becoming too oily. Jojoba oil may help treat acne, both by reducing sebum production and by protecting the skin from harmful bacteria, being healing & anti-microbial (discourages the growth of some bacterial and fungal microbes that attack the skin)

Jojoba oil contains many important nutrients, such as vitamin E, B complex vitamins, and the minerals silicon, chromium, copper, and zinc. It also contains a lot of iodine, which may be where jojoba gets its ability to fight against bacterial and fungal infection. In addition to acne, jojoba has traditionally been used to treat canker sores, cold sores, athlete’s foot, and warts.

Fairytale

“A fairytale is fantastic because it takes us to another time. A time of glamour and grandeur, romance and fun. This is a world I have created with Forbidden Affair - a world where every girl can feel like a princess, and where fairytales do come true!” -Anna Sui
